Overview

What a GST amendment actually is

A GST amendment updates your registration details on the portal — filed through Form REG-14.
Fields are split into core (legal name, address, business details) and non-core (contact details, bank accounts).
Core-field amendments require approval from the jurisdictional officer; non-core amendments are generally auto-approved.
The registration must reflect reality — notices, e-way bills, and refunds all key off these details.

Benefits

Why businesses file GST amendments through us

Open each benefit to see what it means for you.

Core vs non-core, filed correctly

GST distinguishes core fields (legal name, address, business activity) from non-core ones. Filing the wrong type of amendment wastes weeks. We file the right one first.

Officer approval handled

Core-field amendments go to the officer for approval; non-core changes are auto-approved. We prepare the application so the officer has no reason to raise a query.

Change mapped to the right field

Adding a place of business, a new HSN line, or a bank account — each has its own field and its own proof. We map the change to the exact requirement.

Verified after approval

After approval, we verify the change reflects on the portal and your returns pick it up. An approved amendment nobody verifies is a notice waiting to happen.

Documents

Documents required for GST Registration Amendment

Clear, current documents matter more than a long checklist. Names, dates of birth and addresses should match across every record — that's what the MCA checks first. Tick what you already have below.

What is a CIN?

Every Private Limited Company gets a unique 21-character Corporate Identification Number from the MCA. It's proof your company legally exists. You'll need it for bank accounts, tax filings, and contracts. We handle the entire application — you just provide the documents above.

Not sure if your documents are ready?

Send us what you have. A ComplyKart expert will review them for free and tell you exactly what's missing — no obligation.

Questions Founders ask us about documents

What if my address proof is old?

Utility bills and bank statements must be less than 2 months old. If yours are older, get a fresh copy — the MCA rejects stale proofs.

Do I need original documents?

No. Clear scans or photos work for the entire process. We never ask you to courier originals.

What if directors live in different cities?

That's normal. Each director uploads their own documents separately. Our system keeps everything organised.

I'm outside India. Can I still register a company?

Yes. India allows 100% foreign ownership in most sectors, and the entire process happens online. You need one Indian resident director, and your passport + address proof must be apostilled — we'll guide you through both. NRI founders and foreign investors do this with us regularly.

How long does registration actually take?

7 to 10 working days from the day your documents are verified. Name approval takes 2-3 days, MCA incorporation another 5-7. We track every stage and update you.

Can I start if I'm missing one document?

Yes. Start now with what you have — we begin name reservation and DSC while you arrange the rest. Most founders are missing one proof; it rarely blocks the timeline.

Process

GST Registration Amendment process — step by step

You’ll see each stage, what’s pending and what we need from you — so filings don’t bounce back.

Step 1 of 5

1. Identify core vs non-core changes

GST splits amendments into core fields (legal name, addresses, partners/directors) which need officer approval, and non-core fields (bank details, contacts, HSN additions) which update instantly on the portal.

2. File Form GST REG-14

Log in to gst.gov.in, open Amendment of Registration, and file Form GST REG-14 with the changed particulars and supporting documents.

3. Wait for approval — typically 7–15 working days for core fields

Non-core changes reflect immediately. Core-field amendments go to the jurisdictional officer, who must approve or raise a query — typically within 7–15 working days.

4. Download the amended certificate

Download the fresh registration certificate (Form GST REG-06) showing the amended details.

5. Sync the change across invoices and records

Update the changed details on invoices, e-way bills, bank KYC and vendor/customer master records so outward documents match the registration — mismatches here cause ITC problems for your buyers.

For NRI founders & foreign investors

If a founder or investor is outside India

You don't need to fly down. Most of our foreign-founder incorporations are completed without the founder ever visiting India — 100% foreign ownership is allowed in most sectors, and the entire process happens online.

Before you start

  • 100% foreign ownership is allowed in most sectors — no Indian partner needed
  • One Indian resident director is required by law — we help you find a compliant way forward
  • Check whether your sector permits automatic-route foreign investment
  • Your passport + address proof need an apostille, not an embassy visit
  • Map ownership, beneficial ownership and pricing early

After incorporation

  • Receive funds through permitted banking channels
  • Complete RBI/FEMA reporting (FC-GPR, FLA) and keep the bank evidence
  • Coordinate tax and ongoing compliance advice early

Core fields — legal name, principal place of business, business constitution, authorised signatory changes — need officer approval. Non-core fields like email, phone, and bank accounts are typically auto-approved.

File REG-14 on the GST portal. Non-core amendments reflect quickly; core-field amendments go to the jurisdictional officer and typically take around 15 working days.

Then it is a fresh registration, not an amendment — the old GSTIN is cancelled and a new one is issued. Amendment covers changes within the same PAN and state.

File the amendment with the correct details. Operating with wrong registration particulars — especially address — creates mismatches in e-way bills and notices. Fix it promptly.

Yes. Adding or removing a place of business is a standard amendment. Each additional place needs its own address proof on the portal.

They stay pending until the officer acts, and the portal flags long-pending applications. If yours is stuck, we follow up with the jurisdictional officer — that follow-up is part of our job.
