Which ITR form should you file?
Filing the wrong form gets your return marked defective — the tax department asks you to refile within 15 days, and the clock keeps ticking on fees. Answer a few quick questions and we will point you to the right form. No signup, no spam.
Why the form matters
Each ITR form is built for a specific income mix. ITR-1 can't carry capital gains or foreign assets; ITR-4 can't handle directorships or unlisted shares; companies and firms have their own forms entirely. The form must match your income sources — your preference doesn't come into it. If the assessing officer can't map your income to the form, the return is treated as defective under section 139(9).
