Overview

What a tax audit actually involves

Tax audit under Section 44AB of the Income Tax Act applies when turnover or gross receipts cross prescribed limits.
For businesses, the threshold is turnover above ₹1 crore (₹10 crore where cash transactions are 5% or less of the total).
For professionals, the threshold is gross receipts above ₹50 lakh.
The CA reports in Form 3CA or 3CB, with the detailed statement in Form 3CD.
The report is filed electronically before the return due date — typically 30 September, extended to 31 October in recent years.

Benefits

Why businesses get their tax audit done through us

Open each benefit to see what it means for you.

Audit that withstands scrutiny

We examine books properly — cash, stock, TDS, GST reconciliation — so the 3CD disclosures are accurate and defensible.

Disallowances caught early

Expenses the department will disallow are flagged during the audit, not in a notice two years later.

Filed on time, every time

We plan the audit calendar backwards from the due date. Extensions are announced late; we do not rely on them.

One CA from start to filing

The partner who audits your books signs the report. No handoffs mid-audit.

Documents

Documents you will usually need

Clear, current documents matter more than a long checklist. Names, dates of birth and addresses should match across records.

0 documents marked ready Tick what you already have. This checklist resets when you leave the page.

If a founder or investor is outside India

Foreign ownership is possible in many sectors, but it adds document authentication, banking and FEMA work. Set the route before funds move.

Plan before you start

  • Check whether your sector permits automatic-route foreign investment
  • Confirm the Indian resident director arrangement
  • Map ownership, beneficial ownership and pricing
  • Allow time for apostilled or consularised documents

Plan for after setup

  • Receive funds through permitted banking channels
  • Complete RBI/FEMA reporting and keep the bank evidence
  • Coordinate tax and ongoing compliance advice early

No. Statutory audit (under the Companies Act) checks financial statements for shareholders. Tax audit (under the Income Tax Act) reports tax-specific compliance in Form 3CD. Companies often need both.

Typically 30 September following the financial year, extended to 31 October in recent years. We track the notified date each year and plan backwards from it.

Penalty under Section 271B — 0.5% of turnover up to a prescribed maximum — plus a much higher chance of scrutiny. It is not worth skipping.

Usually no, as long as you stay within the scheme and declare the prescribed income. If you opt out or declare lower income, audit provisions can trigger — we check your specific case.

A Chartered Accountant in practice must conduct and sign it. There are also limits on how many tax audits a CA can sign in a year — we confirm capacity before accepting.

Books of account, cash and stock positions, TDS compliance, GST reconciliation, loans and advances, and related-party transactions — everything Form 3CD asks for.
