A PIL can change policy — but only if the court admits it. Maintainability, standing, evidence, and the right forum decide the outcome long before arguments begin. We build petitions that survive that scrutiny.

Overview

What a PIL actually is

A PIL is a writ petition filed for a public cause — environmental harm, governance failures, rights violations affecting many people.
Any public-spirited person can approach the court; personal affectedness is not required.
It lies in the Supreme Court (Article 32) or High Courts (Article 226), depending on the issue.
Courts examine the petitioner's bona fides — publicity-driven or private-grudge petitions are dismissed, sometimes with costs.
Private disputes, service matters, and landlord-tenant issues are generally not maintainable as PILs.

Why PIL petitioners work with us

Open each benefit to see what it means for you.

Honest maintainability assessment

PILs live or die on maintainability — we assess honestly whether your cause qualifies before you file.

Evidence-backed petition

A PIL needs research, data, and precedent — not just outrage. We build the evidentiary foundation.

Right forum advised

Supreme Court under Article 32 or High Court under Article 226 — we advise the right forum for your cause.

Full-journey preparation

PILs attract attention and counter-pressure. We prepare you for the full journey, not just the filing.

Documents you will usually need

Clear, current documents matter more than a long checklist. Names, dates of birth and addresses should match across records.

If a founder or investor is outside India

Foreign ownership is possible in many sectors, but it adds document authentication, banking and FEMA work. Set the route before funds move.

Plan before you start

  • Check whether your sector permits automatic-route foreign investment
  • Confirm the Indian resident director arrangement
  • Map ownership, beneficial ownership and pricing
  • Allow time for apostilled or consularised documents

Plan for after setup

  • Receive funds through permitted banking channels
  • Complete RBI/FEMA reporting and keep the bank evidence
  • Coordinate tax and ongoing compliance advice early

A PIL is a writ petition filed in public interest — for a cause affecting the public at large, not a private dispute. Courts have relaxed the usual standing rules so public-spirited persons can approach them.
Anyone acting bona fide in public interest — you don't need to be personally affected. But the court examines your credentials and motives; PILs filed for publicity or private grudges are dismissed, sometimes with costs.
In the Supreme Court under Article 32 or in the relevant High Court under Article 226. The choice depends on the issue's scope and the authorities involved — we advise after studying your case.
Typically several weeks of research and drafting, then the court's listing schedule takes over. PILs are not fast — expect months, sometimes longer, for substantive hearings.
No — courts have repeatedly held that service matters, private disputes, and landlord-tenant issues are not PIL material. If your grievance is personal, we will tell you the right remedy instead.
Quote-based, depending on research depth and the forum. Request a consultation with the details of your cause.
Yes — courts can impose costs on frivolous or publicity-driven PILs. This is why the maintainability assessment comes first, and why we are candid when a cause doesn't qualify.
