NIC Code: 01 — Crop and animal production, hunting and related service activities

Related Licences & Registrations

  • FSSAI licence: required if you process, pack or trade food produce — even minimally processed vegetables need it once packed for retail.
  • APMC / trade registration: needed for wholesale agri trade in regulated mandis in several states; check the state APMC Act before setting up procurement.
  • Pollution NOC: processing and packaging plants attract consent requirements from the state pollution board.
  • Importer-Exporter Code (IEC): mandatory for any agri-export operation, including farm-to-table exports.

ROC Filing Notes

  • NIC 01 is agriculture — ROC sometimes questions industrial wording under an agri NIC. Keep the cultivation language prominent and the trading language secondary.
  • If food processing is a real line of business, give it its own numbered clause. MCA rejects ‘agriculture including food processing’ packed into one vague clause.
  • Greenhouse equipment manufacturing sits under a different NIC (28). If equipment sales are significant, add a second main object for it rather than burying it in the farming clause.
