NIC Code: 41/42 — Construction of buildings (41); Civil engineering (42)
Related Licences & Registrations
- Contractor Registration (CPWD/State PWD): Required to bid for government construction tenders — graded by project value capacity.
- GST Registration: Mandatory; works contracts are taxed at 18% (12% for specified government projects).
- EPF & ESI Registration: Compulsory once you employ 20+ (EPF) or 10+ (ESI) workers — construction headcount crosses these fast.
- Labour Licences (BOCW Act): Registration under the Building and Other Construction Workers Act is required for construction establishments with 10+ workers.
ROC Filing Notes
- Construction objects attract attention to paid-up capital — MCA expects the capital to be credible for the scale claimed. Do not promise “highways and dams” with ₹1 lakh capital; it invites a query.
- Keep quarrying and mining in a conditional clause (“where permitted by law”); mineral extraction needs separate state leases and unconditional objects overstate authority.
- If the company will also do real estate sales (not just construction), add development and sale clauses — pure construction objects do not comfortably cover property dealing.
