Related Licences & Registrations
- GST Registration: Educational services by commercial coaching providers are taxable at 18% — the exemption applies only to recognised educational institutions.
- DPIIT Startup Recognition: Most edtech ventures qualify, easing compliance and opening government partnership channels.
- UGC/AICTE Approvals: Needed only if you award formal degrees or diplomas — short courses and certifications do not need them, but say so clearly in your marketing.
- Trademark & Copyright: Course content is your core asset; register trademarks for brand names and keep dated records of content creation.
ROC Filing Notes
- Distinguish clearly between a technology platform and an educational institution in the objects — MCA occasionally queries whether an edtech company needs education-department approvals, and precise wording avoids the question.
- If you plan offline centres or franchises, include that in the objects now; adding physical training centres later under a purely “online platform” object invites an MOA alteration.
- Avoid claiming affiliation with universities or boards in the objects — affiliations are contractual and do not belong in the memorandum.
